Slavonski Brod
The city of Slavonski Brod is situated in eastern part of Croatia, which is called Slavonia.
The town is the centre of one of six Slavonic counties, County of Slavonski Brod - Posavina.
Slavonski Brod is situated between Dilj slopes in the north and Sava River in the south.
It is the major traffic crossroad between East and West, and North and South. Both railway and
highway, which connect West Europe and Middle East, pass through Slavonski Brod.
Sava bridge includes railroad and road traffic lanes, and it connects Croatia and Bosnia (there is also
an international border crossing there).Traces back from Roman times reveal that crossing over river
in North – South direction has been there from the beginning; therefore,
Brod is sometimes called "northern gate to Bosnia". Sava River has been navigable since Roman
times, and, parallely to it, there is a pipeline stretching through Slavonic plains.
Slavonski Brod has been declared to be administrative centre of Brodsko-posavska County by the
Law on counties', cities' and municipalities' territories (Official Gazette, No. 90/92 and 10/97).
Today it includes Slavonski Brod, Brodski Varos and Podvinje.
